NACA is a network of aquaculture research centres across 18 member states in the Asia-Pacific Region. Participating research centres work collaboratively to share technical resources and experience in order to avoid duplication of effort, and facilitate aquaculture development in a cost effective manner.

Through training and assistance, the Asia-Pacific Regional Research and Training Centre for Integrated Fish Farming (IFFC), strives to increase the availability of accessible technology in the field of fisheries/aquaculture from China. In particular, IFFC focuses on improving the personnel ability and usability of technology, such as hydrobiology, aquaculture, farm planning and management.

The Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA) is a premier Institute in freshwater aquaculture in the country under the administrative control of the ICAR, New Delhi. The present Institute has had its beginnings in the Pond Culture Division of Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute which was established at Cuttack, Orissa in 1949 with a view to finding solutions to problems of fish culture in ponds and village tanks. Later, the Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, based at Barrackpore, West Bengal in a major effort to give emphasis to freshwater aquaculture research, initiated steps on establishing the Freshwater Aquaculture Research and Training Centre (FARTC) over 147 ha campus at Kausalyaganga, Bhubaneswar, Orissa.

The Coldwater Fishes Research Centre (CFRC) is part of the Iranian Fisheries Research Organization (IFRO), and has been designated as the NACA Regional Lead Center for Coldwater Aquaculture (RLCIr). It is located adjacent to the important coldwater aquaculture production areas of Dohezar and Sehezar, on the banks of the Tonekabon River by the Caspian Sea, which is also an important migration pathway for Caspian sea trout (Salmo trutta caspius).

The SEAFDEC Aquaculture Department (AQD) was established in 1973 to conduct research, develop technologies, disseminate information, and train people in the farming of fishes, crustaceans, mollusks, and seaweeds for food, livelihood, equity, and sustainable development. SEAFDEC/AQD is mandated to:
  • Promote and undertake research on aquaculture relevant and appropriate to the region
  • Encourage human resource development in aquaculture through training and extension
  • Disseminate and exchange information in aquaculture

The Inland Fisheries Research and Development Bureau (Department of Fisheries, Thailand) is responsible for research and development planning on freshwater fisheries resources. The Bureau's responsibilities include resource assessment studies, development and introduction of high-yielding production technologies and providing knowledge and services on freshwater fisheries to the government and fisher communities. The Bureau is the NACA Regional Lead Centre for Thailand.
