Greetings ,

Mud pond :

How is your preference mechanical force? or Man power?

If is by man power then you can start immediately by collecting lumps of the mud and place it on pre determine line which would be its bunds /banks .
Place "a gate" provision on the lower side of the slope .
The gate design could depend on pond size ,heibht, species etc

As the lumps are placed see that no gap is keept between two lumps by proper compression ,to avoid leakage/seepage im future.

In mechanical drying is done then ploughing /tilling .the dry mud is mechanically lifted and drop on the pre determine lines of ponds walls .
Tractors are used for this job sometimes catterpillar tractors are used for scrapping the bottom and pushing the soil for bunds formation .
Its depends on local skill available
keep us informed
Tks Regards

Greetings ,

I wish to clear my doubts with respect to two points :

1)Monsoon in India :In India in monsoon fishing is not done ,i mean marine fishing is not allowed as its conceder breeding season for fish ,do we have data/observations to prove it or disprove it?

2)Hatchery friendly species :Which species are hatchery friendly ,that is we get hatchery seeds , do we get seeds all 12 months?what are the parameters that needs to be controlled.

Many Thanks n Regards

We have a number of articles on cobia in recent issues of Aquaculture Asia Magazine, you might want to browse the publication section and see if there's anything to help you. I think we have one more in the pipeline as well.

Regarding antibiotics, frankly this is best avoided. If you are having disease problems with the larvae then you need to try and improve the larval rearing / hatchery management practices. Quite likely there is some underlying problem that needs to be addressed, and antibiotics won't help with that.

There will be a poster on jade perch culture at the upcoming Global Conference on Aquaculture 2010, if you can attend you should be able to discuss with the author.

Hi Indulkar

Different species have very different habits. However, I used to work on a reef in Australia for a couple of years, and one trigger common to many species is water current. Many species will spawn mid-tide (especially wrasse and parrot fish), when the water velocity is highest, and usually when the water is moving off the reef although I have sometimes seen spawning on the rising tide. The tides are of course related to the lunar cycle, and this is important for at least some grouper species as well.

Water temperature is important for many species, spawning was far more obvious in summer months than winter, and some egg-laying species like seargent majors (damselfish) would adopt spawning colourations in the warmer months.

This is all pretty general and my comments only relate to what I've observed in reef fish, temperate species may be totally different. If you have an interest in a particular species, maybe someone will know.
